Logan Lucky Banner Preview

August Preview | Upcoming Movies and their Soundtrack Albums

August promises to be another great month for movie releases, with many films we’re more than excited for. Kicking it off this week is the premier of the science fiction-western blend, The Dark Tower, which pits Matthew McConaughey against Idris Elba. We’re also going to get Kathryn Bigelow’s latest, much-anticipated drama, Detroit, documenting the true story of the racially motivated street riot in Detroit, 1967. Later on in August we also have the long awaited sequel to horror, Annabelle, Annabelle: Creation. Then there’s Jeannette Walls’s memoir, which will give life to the drama film, The Glass Castle, telling the story of a young girl coming to terms with her dysfunctional and far-from-conventional ‘nomadic’ family. For those looking for a comedy, there will be Logan Lucky, which is looking to be both a box-office and huge critic success. The Hitman’s Bodyguard, featuring Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L Jackson  will also premiere later in the month.

The Dark Tower (Releasing 4th August)

Unsure of what to think about this one, but it certainly is a unique concept. The original soundtrack and score will be by Junkie XL, who were responsible for the score behind Mad Max: Fury Road, Deadpool, Divergent and more. You can find The Dark Tower Soundtrack on WhatSong here. Otherwise take a look at the trailer and let us know what you think.

Detroit (Releasing 4th August)

We’re expecting a killer soundtrack to go with this one, with the score written by James Newton Howard, while music supervisor Randall Poster (Nerve, The Grand Budapest Hotel, The Nice Guys, The Hangover) is responsible for the selection of music. Be sure to take a look at the Detroit Soundtrack here. We can’t seem to figure out the song from the trailer below. Let us know if you know what it is.

Annabelle: Creation (Releasing 11th August)

The long-awaited prequel to the possessed doll horror, has certainly caught the critics attention with an overwhelming positive response. We’re not sure what to expect on the soundtrack front here, but the original seemed to have a few catchy original songs. Benjamin Wallfisch is responsible for the score soundtrack and original music, and has previously done a stellar job on movies like A Cure for Wellness12 Years a Slave & V for Vendetta. Follow along on WhatSong with all the songs from the Annabelle Creation soundtrack here.

The Glass Castle (Releasing 11th August)

Definitely take a look at this one from the acclaimed director of Short Term 12. Based on a true story and the best-selling memoir of Jeannette Walls, comes a story of a young girl coming to age, learning to deal with her dysfunctional and nonconforming ‘nomadic’ family. The original score and music is produced by Joel P. West who has been responsible for mainly smaller, independent films in the past including Short Term 12. Joe Rudge (Blue Valentine, The Big Sick, Beasts of the Southern Wild) will be the music supervisor and we’re excited to see what songs are chosen for this film. Check out The Glass Castle List of Songs and Soundtrack on WhatSong. Oh – and if you’re wondering what the trailer songs are:
“Sleep on the Floor” by The Lumineers
“Black Water” by Reuben and the Dark

Logan Lucky (Releasing 18th August)

Personally, I’ve been looking forward to this movie since I first saw the trailer months ago. Channing Tatum, Adam Driver, Riley Keough and Daniel Craig form an unlikely comedic bond for what looks to be one of, if not the best comedy this year. David Holmes as the movie’s composer and Season Kent as the music supervisor will be sure to bring us one killer soundtrack! Follow the Logan Lucky Soundtrack on WhatSong here. Oh! and the trailer songs are:
“Down We Go” by As Lions
“Living in the U.S.A.” by Steve Miller Band

The Hitman’s Bodyguard (Releasing 18th August)

The Hitman’s Bodyguard opens later this month and looks watchable however fails to capture us as much as some of the other movies on offer this August. Have a look and let us know what you think. The music supervisor Selena Arizanovic will be responsible for The Hitman’s Bodyguard soundtrack, and has been responsible for other movie titles such as Straight A’s, The Expendables 3 and Criminal.
