1. “Bellbottoms” - Jon Spencer Blues Explosion

Opening the film with “Bellbottoms” by Jon Spencer Blues Explosion adds a level of playfulness as Ansel Egort’s character, Baby, jams out waiting for his fellow crime mates to rob a bank. Although it’s an action movie, it strikes a perfect balance of comedy and playfulness embodying the spirit of a fun action film.

The opposite of Baby Driver is the romance film Hard Luck Love Song. It shows the versatility of the song and how it’s perfect for an array of movie genres.

2. “Unsquare Dance” - The Dave Brubeck Quartet

As they are curating a plan for the groups second heist Baby is seen listening to music with his headphones, as usual, with “Unsquare Dance” by The Dave Brubeck Quartet being the main track for this scene. It creates a calm tone for the scene although the following senses will be nothing but that. It shows how nonchalant Baby is about the heist too. The calm music being played by Baby for an action filled scene goes along to help the audience understand the character further.

The track is also heard in the 2009 film, The Blind Side. The movie is based off of a true story about the NFL Player, Micheal Oher. It’s a tear jerking film as the visuals replicate his struggles and his journey to get to where he is today.

3. “Neat Neat Neat” - The Damned

As the group prepares for yet another heist Baby uses, “Neat Neat Neat” by The Damned to not only have a little jam session but to also time everything perfectly while his group is performing the heist. It’s his own unique timer. The guitar riffs within the Rock and Roll song curates the perfect tone for the action packed scene as they not only do a heist but also get in an intense car chase with a witness of the heist.

The song is also heard in the 1999 film Fresh Air directed by Neil Mansfield. The drama features a filmmaker, Marin Mimica and his girlfriend, Nadine Garner, who dreams of artistic success as a musician. Throughout the film they navigate their dreams and life together in the big city.

4. “Easy” - The Commodores

Exhibiting one of the lower mood points in the film is the track, “Easy” by The Commodores. Baby is shown in the junkyard after his new car had to get destroyed after being used in a heist. He plays the track in his headphones and uses the song to express how he feels, lipsyncing the lyrics.

The track’s slow tempo and raw emotion within the vocals are ideal for the emotional tone which is why many films have included this song within their soundtracks. It’s best with sad scenes as seen in Baby Driver, but also fitting for uplifting moments like its inclusion in the 2011 comedy Zookeeper.

5. “Baby, I’m Yours” - Barbara Lewis

Throughout the film, Baby falls in love with Debora, a diner waitress, played by the actress Lily James. The organic chemistry is felt through the screen. The love songs scattered throughout the soundtrack complement their love perfectly including the track , “Baby, I’m Yours” by Barbara Lewis. The track is heard during his second visit to the diner as he realizes how hard and fast he is falling for Debora.

The heartwarming love song is ideal for any love story including the 1995 romance film, The Bridges of Madison County. The film highlights characters played by Meryl Streep and Clint Eastwood as they realize it’s never too late to meet your soulmate.

6. “Nowhere To Run” - Martha Reeves & The Vandellas

The choice of “Nowhere To Run,” by Martha Reeves & The Vandelles for when Baby is taking his crime mates to another heist is the ideal track for this specific scene. The lyrics, “nowhere to run to baby, nowhere to hide,” exemplify Baby’s situation that he’s stuck in as he actually has nowhere to go to or nowhere to hide. The track highlights how he has no way out of helping with these recurring heists although he has a desire to leave.

The track is ideal when characters find themselves stuck between a rock and a hard place. The song has been featured in numerous shows and movies like USA Networks Suits, the Robin Williams classic Good Morning Vietnam, and the Netflix rom-com Set it Up.

7. “Run the Jewels” - Run The Jewels

After a pulse pounding heist, Jamie Foxx’s character Batz cranks the radio letting Run the Jewels self-titled track “Run the Jewels” roar from the car speakers. The track’s tone matches Batz's quick temper and nonchalant personality that's not only present during that scene but also throughout the film.

The track’s attitude and instrumentation make it perfect for scenes featuring rebellion and criminal activity which is why it’s featured in shows like Lethal Weapon, Empire, Power, and movies like Baywatch.

The song is featured in multiple shows as well as the film The Tender Bar, an adapted screenplay by William Monahan which tells the true story of J.R. Moehinger, an American journalist and memoirist.

The track is also included in the soundtrack for the 2020 family musical, Trolls World Tour. The instrumental track, accentuated by fast-paced guitar licks and intense head-banging, is the perfect song to be used in action montages or troll dolls rocking out.

10. “Never, Never Gonna Give Ya Up” - Barry White

Baby and Debora’s love gets tested with unforeseen circumstances throughout the film. This is clear when Buddy angrily confronts Baby, threatening to kill him and Debora after his girlfriend Darling is killed during a shootout with the police. In the scene, “Never, Never Gonna Give Ya Up” by Barry White plays as Buddy calmly continues to raise the tension. The lyrics and expression of not giving up on someone you love are ideal for this particular scene as Debora chooses to not walk away from Baby even though she knows the danger.

The love track is used for a variety of different romantic scenes in movies and television, including the 2003 film “Bruce Almighty,” featuring Jenifer Aniston, Steve Carrell, and Jim Carrey as the titular character.
